Who's the Artist?

Cathleen Windham (b.1962) is an American artist who works primarily in oils. Many of her paintings are done in plein air (outdoors). She is a member of the American Impressionist Society and previously served as President of a 200 plus artists group in Tennessee, the Chestnut Group. She chaired the group show at Historic Carnton in Franklin, TN.

Having not picked up a paint brush since middle school, Cathleen signed up in 2008 for a 2 day "Try It Out" workship Nashville TN. The instructor was an artist she greatly admired, Dawn Whitelaw. It “took” and Cathleen has continued to grow her skills as an artist. In 2018, she relocated to Denver CO to paint the west. Her painting travels have taken her from the balmy coast of the Carolina’s to the glory of the  Tetons to wine vineyards in Italy. “Painting from life is perhaps the best way to ‘Be Here Now.’ "

Windham has studied with several artists including Anne Blair Brown, Kevin Menck, Randal Sexton, Ken Kewley, Larry Moore and Dawn Whitelaw. Her work is in private collections across the U.S.

She had her first solo show at Red Arrow Art Gallery in Nashville TN. She has since participated numerous events and shows. Her work is in collections from coast to coast.

Cathleen currently resides in Denver, CO area where she is growing her teaching practice for new painters. “Part of my responsibility as an artist is to share what I’ve learned. Starting out is intimidating but I love to nurture those first few creative ah-ha moments.”

"The first time I picked up a brush was outside. I cut my teeth as a painter right there on the gorgeous Tennessee farms, mountains and vistas. It was pretty much sink or swim!
